My Favorite Quick Supper
If you want to make a supper that’s as quick as it can be,
Then just listen and I’ll give you my own secret recipe.
You put some flour into a bowl, two cupfuls from a sack.
And just as you are measuring, the door bell rings. Alack!
Your held is turned a minute–you note your small son’s plight.
He’s dumped the flour on his head. Oh mercy, what a sight!
You sweep the flour from the floor, put more into the bowl.
You measure out the butter, but the baby starts to howl.
You go and change her diaper. Your son’s made another mess.
He is eating flour and butter. This will cause you quite some stress.
You wash the mixture from his face, add more butter to the flour.
Just as you start to mix it you notice the late hour.
By now the baby’s crying. You pick her up to rock.
The phone begins to jingle, but you think it is a knock.
You snatch your little son, and you dump him in the tub.
You can feel a headache forming, so you give your brow a rub,
As you scrape your son’s mess from the floor the tears begin to flow.
You grab a can of pork and beans, and to the stove you go.
Although you are exhausted, and your patience is worn thin.
You smile and serve the supper, which you know will not please HIM.
